REFLECTIVE JOURNAL 1
1.
What have you learned and/or re-learned in the last 4 weeks of our
sessions? (Specifically identify the concepts, principles, and skills in public
speaking that you have learned and/or re-learned).
(15 Points)
In the past 4 weeks I’ve learned in order to give a speech you need to
project your voice and make eye contact with your audience. Also give the same
respect to your audience that you would want done to you, like don’t talk while
their giving there speech don’t text, don’t do distracting things like chew gum
or laugh. I also learned that some things that people say can be offensive
weather its racism or something else things like that won’t make your audience
interested in the things you have to say. So you have to be cautious when it comes
to stuff like that. Other things that helped me would be the telephone game that
we played in class where you have to pass on the same sentence to your peers
that game helped me retain information. And also that group speech showed me how
to work with others.
2. Have your learning techniques, time management,
and learning attitude been effective in this course? If yes, why do you say so?
If not, why do you think so? (5 points)
Yes, my learning techniques, time management, and learning attitude have
been effective. When it comes to leaning in your class you make things fun so I
go to class wanting to learn and wanting to watch the videos you provide for us
of other students speeches. When it comes to time management I have been
managing my time pretty well, I have not procrastinated on one assignment and I
find myself going to class on time and being in all my classes. As far as
attitude I find myself more focus not only for your class but for my others as
well and I have a positive attitude for all of them.
3. Are your instructor’s teaching style and approach,
as well design of learning lessons and learning activities effective and able to
help you learn and/or relearn things in speech communication? WHY do you think
or say so? (5 points)
Yes, when it comes to the power points they help a lot. When it comes to
my instructor having a positive attitude and excited to teach the class that
shows me she wants to teach us and wants to help us. I love when she provides us
with examples of informative and persuasive speeches from our peers because when
we see our friends giving a speech it makes me feel we can do it to. So the
teaching style and approach are very effective.

4.
A: I’ve learned so much these past view weeks. When
it came to communication I’ve learned to connect with my
audience weather it be
eye contact or having a good focus question to engage people in my speech. When
it came to my classmates giving there
speech’s I observed what they were doing
and reflected on myself. Like was I loud enough, was my topic interesting and am
I communicating with my audience.
B: I personally enjoy working with others I feel when you share
your opinions with your classmates you not only learn
from yourself but you learn from others.
C: I feel that I have leadership qualities many times I volunteer
to go first. My personality is very bubbly and I feel people can learn from me
when it comes to my speeches.
D: We learned what to do and what not to do during a speech in
class I feel as I developed by not disrespecting my classmates while there
giving their speeches.
5.
A: Learning Materials; my instructor provides my class with great
information on speeches when I’m confused on something I can go on angel and
access what I need. The information my instructor provides me would be my
learning material.
B: Learning activities also help me learn, a learning activity
that helps me learn about the speeches is the
self-evaluations they are a strong way to learn about yourself and the
fellow classmates.
C: My speech delivery helped me learn about myself,
by watching me and my fellow classmates speeches I’ve learned what I did
wrong and what I can master. By evaluating speech performances it helped me
focus on what I needed to master and what’s important.
D: I feel my instructor’s teaching style is GREAT
her enthusiasm makes me want to learn more while I have fun doing it.
E: I feel I have a positive attitude when it comes to
class and learning in general my motto is the only way a student can learn
is if the student wants to learn. I feel my positive attitude reflects in my
grades and there isn’t a thing I would change about my positive attitude.
6. I honestly don’t have any changing suggestions, I
personally love this class and I don’t feel the need for anything to be
changed. I can come to class and learn something new every day so I don’t
feel the need to change anything.

Reflective Journal 3
Please, answer substantively and meaningfully, the 5 reflection
questions below:
1.
After having delivered your persuasive speech, what concepts, principles, and skills in effective speech
communication have been further imbibed within you? What proofs or evidence
reflect the set of knowledge and skills you have learned, strengthened, improved
or developed?
With the persuasive speech I personally felt more comfortable
speaking to the class. I feel I improved with involving the audience by asking
questions and interacting. By watching my fellow peers videos on YouTube I saw
what to do and what not to do. Some students don’t project loud enough, some
don’t engage with their audience and some don’t look interested when giving
their speech. Being recorded truly
helps me learn most about myself and that’s one thing that has been imbibed
within me.
2. How valuable do you think are the skills you have gained in effective communication
in your personal, academic, and career goals?
What we cover in speech class
is very valuable when it comes to my career. Being that my major is
communication speech disorder I have to work and talk to patients, so being able
to talk in front of a large group helps me tremendosly. Academic wise, I learn
something new every day which helps me also when it comes to preparing for my
speeches. On a Personal note the skills that I gain reflects in my speeches I
try not to read off the slides, I try to project my voice and interact with my
audience.
3. If you are to recommend some strategies for success in acquiring skills in effective speech
communication from CAS100A class, what specific strategies would you recommend
to a peer or fellow students?
I would recommend for Alix to not read directly
off her slides and try to master memorization of her topic.
4. What of our course objectives do you believe have been met at this stage of your
learning progress?
Everyone is starting to get the hang of citing their
sources throughout their speech.
Most students know much about their topic so they don’t read directly off
their slides. So there’s improvement overall.
5.
Comments/Recommendations or
Suggestions
Overall I can see some improvement in our class, the students
even interact more.
